rituals
first came the moon (2026)
RITUALS began (officially) with gestural drawings of my body as a result of casual
figure studies, after a few, I hated them, mostly I think I hated myself. I twisted it, I
darkened the face, elongated my fingers, and I never felt more beautiful. Here I was,
a devil in disguise, dancing for myself, which seemed like a sin so long ago. I had
found the perfect figure to depict all the people I have become in one. The reality
was I made mistakes, and I would make them again. Just how I would wake up the
next day, and the day after that. Go to work, go to school, brush my teeth, drink, eat,
fuck, sleep. All these simple actions firing away instinctively like neurons inside a
brain. Everything became a ritual. Coincidentally, I was taking a cognitive
psychology class, opening a new window into my work with questions and more
questions. Why do I think? What processes happen inside the brain when I repeat
the same rituals over and over again? How does repetition help encode within
memory? New concepts began to tie into the work and the dance began. I embraced
the transformations, embraced the possibilities. I could be a psychologist, an artist,
a nobody... I could be anyone so long as I danced.2026
